This morning, Valencia CF and Octopus Energy took a firm step towards a more sustainable future with the inauguration of the solar self-consumption system at the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna. The project, carried out by the energy company during June, is the first milestone of its recent Sustainability Partnership.
The installation of 328 panels, strategically located on the roofs of the gymnasium, changing rooms and maintenance area, allows the Club's training and talent development centre to operate with more than 30% solar energy. This is the first major milestone of the alliance with which Valencia CF, together with Octopus Energy, is accelerating its energy transition process.
With an annual production of more than 260,000 kWh, the Ciutat Esportiva becomes the centre of Valencia CF's sustainability strategy. Furthermore, the commitment to decarbonisation is reinforced by the 100% renewable electricity that Octopus Energy will supply when it is needed to connect to the grid.
During the inauguration, both entities have announced that they will improve the Ciutat Esportiva by integrating electrical solutions developed by Octopus Energy and designed to encourage green energy consumption among the thousands of people who use the facilities. In addition, they will create the 'Energy House', a space where visitors will be able to dive into the different renewable energies interactively and see the guts of the solar installation live.
"We are already working on new sustainability projects at the Ciutat Esportiva to promote the transfer of knowledge about the green energy universe, sustainable mobility and other initiatives to bring renewable energies closer to people," explains Roberto Giner, CEO of Octopus Energy. "The trust shown by Valencia CF with this partnership is a further demonstration of our commitment to making clean energy accessible and affordable for families," he adds.
"We are delighted with this partnership that allows Valencia CF to advance sustainability. Thanks to this installation of 850 square metres of solar panels mounted on an area of 1,800 m2, we will save 34% of energy consumption. It will also allow us to reduce up to 235 tons of CO2 emissions compared to gas-fired electricity generation," explains Christian Schneider, Valencia CF's Director of Operations and Infrastructure.
Thus, four charging points for electric vehicles have also been installed inside the Ciutat Esportiva and we are working together with Octopus Energy to set up two additional charging points for our fans," said Valencia CF's director of Operations and Infrastructure.
